In 1976, Norris and Dolores Hines started a sign painting business in Hickory, NC, which was listed for sale in the industry magazine “Signs of the Times.” The empty nesters decided to take a leap of faith and bought what was then called Moore Signs. Norris had been the national sales manager for Plasti-Line, one of the biggest sign makers in the country at that time. He had sold to some of the largest companies in the US, including Michelin, Coca-Cola, Chrysler, and Arby's.

Norris and Dolores renamed the business Sign Systems and began selling to local businesses in Hickory and nearby areas. While that business grew, Plasti-Line started hiring Sign Systems as national reps for Burger King. Over the next 25 years, Norris and his sons Scott and Jeff managed the Burger King account, including sign sales and installation.

Over the last 50 years, Sign Systems has expanded its presence locally, regionally, and nationally, serving customers ranging from small businesses to national chains. Our experience working with big companies helps us better serve local and regional customers. Sign Systems now has offices in Asheville, Hickory, and Winston-Salem, NC.
